Mirehouse Ward Grants

This week I was delighted to present a cheque for £900 to St Benedict’s Junior Rugby Club out of my ward allowance. In my opinion the rugby club is one of the biggest and best projects on the estate as it boasts up to 100 kids training every week between the ages of 5 and 14.

Dedicated fully qualified coaches give up their spare time to teach our young not just the art of rugby union but discipline and respect. Kids I used to see causing mischief around the estate through boredom are now seen around the estate holding a rugby ball and wearing there St Benedict’s colours with pride. I am lucky enough to watch some of the age groups regularly all over the county and I'm yet to witness a defeat they are unbelievably good and only going to get better with this clubs amazing support. It’s a project I will be looking to help out with as much as I can for as long as I can to assure these kids of all ages continue to keep occupied, keep fit, make friends and learn discipline through this fantastic club.

A cheque for £500 was also presented to Mirehouse AFC to help fund a new ride on mower. Mirehouse boasts one of the best football pitches in the County and is the host to countless finals. It also provides the fantastic facilities to our local schools for sports days etc so I felt it was worthy of the donation. The football club currently has a very successful senior Sunday side something for the 16+ residents to aim for and also a veterans team that also cleaned up this season. The club has a rich history and I'm proud to play just a small part in the future of the club.
